  Lance Burton

Lance Burton is one of the best sleight-of-hand magicians there is, coupled with his ability to misdirect he certainly deserves the title of “A Magician’s Magician”.

When he was just five years old, he was at a party with a show being done by a magician and was a volunteer to one of the magician’s tricks.  Silver dollars were being grabbed from fresh air and then, from behind the ears of an astonished Lance Burton.  After being given a book by a neighbour, he quickly learned the ten magic tricks it contained and did his first performance for the local children where he lived.  Lance Burton was hooked.

In his mid-teens, Lance Burton entered his first competition as a junior magician and easily took first prize.  By now, the very magician who had mesmerised Lance Burton all those years ago had become his mentor.  After he had just turned twenty, Lance Burton was honoured by the International Brotherhood of Magicians with a Gold Medal of Excellence award.

After moving to Southern California, he managed to get a spot on Johnny Carson’s The Tonight Show.  This catapulted the name of Lance Burton into the homes of the American public.  From that moment, offers of work began to flood in.

After starting an eight-week stint at the Folies Bergere show in Las Vegas, Lance Burton was still there an amazing nine years later.  He also wanted to compete at the International Federation of Magic Societies main event – the World Championship of Magic.  He won for America in 1982 – indeed, Lance Burton was the first American to do so.
It was this Championship act that featured the great sleight-of-hand of Lance Burton to produce things from nowhere.
A dove appears from his hand which only moments before was on fire and, next, he takes off his gloves, puts them together, folds them inside out and seems to throw them away, only for another dove to appear with the gloves nowhere to be seen.
A silk scarf is shown, held at both ends, and his hands are brought together.  When his hands are apart again, a long candle is revealed which, when lit, just as quickly disappears.

Lance Burton now has a theatre named after him in Las Vegas where he performs nightly to packed houses.  He has done several TV specials and has become a regular guest on major talk shows.

Long may the legend that is Lance Burton continue!
